Miami Art Week at The Shelborne By Proper

A Celebration of Art, Sound, and Immersive Experiences

During 2025 Miami Art Week, The Shelborne By Proper emerged as a destination for creativity, culture, and thoughtful gathering in the heart of Miami Beach. Across the hotel’s Art Deco interiors and beachfront setting, guests experienced immersive installations, live performances, curated conversations, and intimate moments that explored the intersection of art, design, and music.

Opening Moments: Art and Cocktails

Miami Art Week programming began with an intimate evening featuring artist Ian Felice. Guests gathered for a curated dinner at Pauline, the hotel’s signature restaurant, where Latin inspired cuisine set a warm and welcoming tone. Following dinner, the evening continued at Little Torch, the hotel’s hidden lounge, where LALO Tequila cocktails accompanied late night conversation, sound, and discovery. This opening celebration established the creative energy and sense of connection that carried throughout the week.

Casa Bosques Pop Up and Design Conversations

The Café hosted a curated pop up by Mexico City based Casa Bosques, presenting an international selection of art, design, and travel books. Guests also previewed Designed to Stay, the upcoming Design Hotels compendium, ahead of its United States release.

In collaboration with Design Hotels, Casa Bosques presented a series of design focused conversations. Editor Dan Howarth and architect Eleni Petaloti explored the concept of spaces as invisible hosts, discussing how architecture and design can shape memory, emotion, and reflection. Later, Moisés Micha, co founder of Grupo Habita, shared insights into his family’s art collection and its influence on contemporary hospitality. These conversations offered guests meaningful perspective into the creative thinking behind some of the world’s most distinctive design led hotels.

Pilar Zeta’s The Observer Effect

Pilar Zeta’s The Observer Effect

A defining moment of Miami Art Week at The Shelborne By Proper was Pilar Zeta’s installation, The Observer Effect. Positioned along the beachfront, the monumental structure hosted guided sunrise and sunset sound experiences with ambient music pioneer Laraaji.

Guests were invited into moments of meditation and presence, enhanced by Bloom Energy beverages, creating an experience that felt both grounding and visually striking. By blending art, sound, and nature, The Observer Effect offered a rare opportunity for reflection amid the energy of Miami Art Week.

Lee Pivnik’s Wellspring: Art and Ecology

No Vacancy is Miami Beach’s annual program that transforms landmark hotels into immersive art destinations. As part of the program, The Shelborne By Proper hosted Wellspring, a site specific installation by Miami based artist Lee Pivnik.

Wellspring drew inspiration from living systems and nonhuman species, exploring ecological entanglement through sculptural forms that referenced fungal networks, epiphytic plants, and emergent animal architectures. Created by Miami based artist Lee Pivnik, a RISD graduate and co director of the Institute of Queer Ecology, the installation reflects his ongoing exploration of interconnected environments. His work has been exhibited internationally and recognized with both the Knight Arts Challenge and the 2025 Creative Capital Award.

Sound Sessions and Live Performances

Music played a central role throughout Miami Art Week at The Shelborne By Proper. Late night programming at The Bar featured internationally recognized DJs and performers. Todd Terje opened the series with his signature disco and house sound, followed by an energetic set from TEED.

Capital One Sound Sessions further elevated the week’s musical programming. Justine Skye delivered a live performance defined by smooth R and B vocals and emotive songwriting. The series culminated with Leon Bridges, who hosted and performed his genre blending JUMP JUDY dance party, transforming the hotel into a vibrant celebration of music, movement, and nightlife.

Poet in Residence: Mia Moretti

Adding a literary dimension to the week, Mia Moretti served as poet in residence at The Café. She created custom poems for hotel guests and visitors, offering personal moments of reflection and storytelling that complemented the broader artistic programming.
